Step 3: Finishing the Shape of Your Wings Sketch In the next step, we will use this curve to help us shape the rest of the wing. Begin at the left end of the top line and create a downwards curving line. We continue to work on this first wing by creating the downwards curve. You will also use this line to create the final shape and size of your wing drawings. This line is the first step in creating symmetrical wings. The right side of this top line should be significantly higher than the left, creating a sharply sloped horizontal line. Find the center point of your canvas, and just to the right of it, draw a straight tilted line. We begin the wings sketch by constructing the top line of the right wing.

Gather your drawing supplies, and let us start learning how to draw wings. Our examples use basic gouache paint, but you are welcome to use any medium you like, whether that is digital paint, coloring pencils, or another paint medium.
We will be using a little white and black to create some shadows, however, and at this stage of the tutorial, you will need to decide what coloring medium to use. Wings are traditionally white, so we will not be using too much color in our wings sketch tutorial.
